Council legalizes outdoor fireplaces

The Fremont City Council on Tuesday legalized outdoor fireplaces, including portable fire pits, chimneys and fire rings, but the ordinance was slightly different from the version originally introduced on April 26.

A sticking point had been how far outdoor fireplaces should be from structures and property lines. The initial draft of the ordinance specified that outdoor fireplaces must be at least 25 feet from any structure.

Council members Sean Gitt and Scott Schaller, however, said that was too restrictive and would eliminate many homes from being able to have the devices.

Gitt said his own lot was too short to have a fire pit 25 feet from his house.

"I don't think there's one person in my neighborhood that could have a fire ring or fire pit," he said in April.

The compromise came through an amendment introduced by Schaller Tuesday prior to final reading of the ordinance. Instead of stipulating a distance, the amendment changed the ordinance to "recommend that they be 15 feet from the property line and 10 feet from the nearest structure."

Where can I buy a metal fire pit / fire ring like they have at campsites in National Parks & National Forests?

I'd like to install one of these in my yard. (I live in the mountains, so it's allowed.) I'd like to do this for my hubby for Father's Day, so I'm in a bit of a hurry. I'd really like a no frills, solid metal ring, like the ones used at campsites and picnic areas and such. Any idea where I could buy one??
if you're in the United States, Tractor Supply Company (a chain store) sells them. If you local store does not have them, they will order them for you.

I realize these are deceptively difficult to locate given how simple they are. I looked for over a year until I found that TSC carried them. Do not buy them on-line. Not only will they likely be way overpriced, but the shipping will be very expensive. Also, don't give in an buy one of the decorative rings. They tend to rust easily.

Where can I buy a fire pit / pire ring like they have at campgrounds? One that you put in the ground.?
