Fire department offers safety tips
May 19, 2012 | The following guidelines should be followed if you plan to use a fire pit or chimneys within the city limits: Fire pits or chimneys must be commercially manufactured with spark arresters or be a permanent structure that is part of your landscape... The Bismarck Fire Department has issued some safety tips for use of fire pits and grills during times of burn bans. Fire pits must have a total fuel area of 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in fuel height. Fire pits cannot be placed on wood decks, used on or in enclosed patio decks or under overhangs. A hole dug into the ground and ringed with rocks is not considered a fire pit. A fire extinguisher, water hose, sand or some type of extinguishing material should be available at all times. A spark arrestor screen must be used to control sparks and embers when provided with the unit. The device must be placed at least 15 feet from any combustibles including your house, garage, shed or fence.

Fire pit tables are low to the ground, the flame burns low and does not use wood. Here is a link: http://www.backyardcity.com/images/coc/solano-dining.jpg
the balcony is large, but does have a 9 ft high roof above.

Question about a fire pit table?
May 19, 769 by Angie M
Alright, I don't really know how to explain this, but I once saw on the TV (I think it was The Real World) this house had a table fire pit with these gel-like coals in the pit that you can light on fire, and I think they come in different colors. Does anyone know what these are called, or where to buy them? Thanks!!
I have seen these in either Lowe's or Home Depot in the aisle where they sell outdoor grilling equipment and accessories.
