May 19, 2012 | Police said Loranger threw a family dog into the fire pit Saturday during an argument with his girlfriend. A West Warwick man is accused of throwing a dog into a backyard fire pit. Any animal is defenseless, and for a human being to pick up an animal and throw it into a fire is very troublesome," said West Warwick police Sgt. Neighbors said they don't know the couple, but they said they keep a close watch on their kids and try to avoid the house. Amaral said the dog -- a Chihuahua/beagle mix -- suffered some burns to its hind paws and that the suspect's girlfriend did have a minor injury, but is OK. Their child was not hurt. "Anybody that can hurt a defenseless animal -- history shows us that they can be worse to other human beings," Amaral said. Can I build a fire pit on an existing concrete patio?
May 19, 555 by outdoor cook
I am bricking over my concrete patio and wondering if I can make a fire pit at the same time. I am thinking of using concrete bricks. Is there anything specific that I need to know? Like, should I lay something on the bottom?
No problem at all. YOu might want to line the bottom with either flag stone or brick..but fires like this are not that hot. I wouldn't worry about it that much. If you really want to do it up good, go to lumber yard and get Fire Brick to line the bottom. (used in fire places). Build up the sides by setting field stone or whatever. Mortar in place, allow mortar to set about 28 days before firing up.
