Fire pits and waterfalls: Fire and water features are popular additions for ...
Feb 04, 6052 | By Kelle Barr When Mike and Susan Murphy renovated their Gull Lake home, they wanted to bring as much living space
outdoors as possible — and they wanted to enjoy the soothing sounds of falling
water from inside and near their home.
“We’re set too far back from the lake to hear the water and that’s very important to us,” Susan Murphy said. “But we had no idea how to get this done.”
Bruce and Sherri Snyder, co-owners of Gull Lake Landscape Co. , had plenty of ideas and the expertise to transform the Murphys’ ideas into reality. The result is a waterfall that cascades down a hill on the Murphys’ property. It flows into a tiny stream with a picturesque bridge over it.
“We didn’t want a pond because we have small grandchildren, but this is perfect,” Susan said. “They sit and dangle their toes from the bridge into very shallow water and watch little frogs jump around. They love

Build a fire pit w/ firebrick inside . What type of rock can be used to stand up to the heat and freeze/thaw?
May 23, 2007 by mherman60
Really you can use just about any type of rock.
However, stay away from sandstone or any similar type of porous rock. Any rock that came from a river bed is also unacceptable. These type of rocks of the potential to explode as they can have water trapped inside on them. When the heat gets high enough the water turns into steam, as there isn't anywhere for it to go it explodes.
Are your trying to line the pit or making a bed inside of the pit? If you are, consider going to a kitchen counter store and purchasing damaged granite counter tops on the cheap.
The price will almost be a give away, because they can't use it and they have the equipment to cut the pieces to size for you. Granite withstands high tempratures, so it's the perfect material to use and it hold heat for a long time.
Pire pit Question? Would it be safe to dig a hole in the dirt of my yard and put rocks around it as a fire pit
Jun 07, 2008 by Bassmaster
I don't want to buy a fire pit but I want it to be safe. I just want ro dig a hole and put rocks around it
Yes it is safe. Just made sure you have at least 4 ft of defensble space around it and that no tree limbs are hanging over where flames would be reaching up to.
You also want to check laws in your area. Call the fire department in your neighborhood and ask them if it's legal to do so.
