May 21, 2011 | Despite Exxon Valdez, despite BP's gulf catastrophe (and there are still ill effects from both of those), I find it amazing to observe the eagerness to embrace what can become another environmental catastrophe. This pipeline, proposed to be made of thinner steel, operated at higher pressures, and with a customary safety device disabled, passes under a major aquifer. The same folks who managed to obtain exemption from The Clean Water Act & other environmental protections for fracking (think "burning water from the faucet") are now working hard to promote yet another environmental catastrophe. All in the name of "more oil", while simultaneously opposing efforts to promote and support alternate energy sources, where Europe and Asia are leaving us in the dust. Why is it that the GOP and its supporters use "for the sake of our children" only when it involves money? Why are they so unconcerned about leaving a polluted wasteland for future generations? is it possible for a pacemaker to backfire/fireback and cause death?

Pacemakers are fantastic devices with little problems. They can have two or four wire sitting in your hearts sensing your rhythm. If it detects a shockable rhythm, it will shock you. Now as far as back firing and killing you, I have heard about pacers firing to often and having to be removed but never about someone being shocked to death.
