Does anyone know where to buy a protective "fence" to put in front of a fireplace to protect a toddler?

I have a pedestal stove/ gas fireplace and I need something like a protective fence or guard for my toddler, the stove didn't come with such a thing.
The stove has a grating of course, but I mean something to put on the floor in front of it, so he can' get close enough to touch it...
Another option is at stores like baby's R us or similar store. they have baby fences that you can buy panels for until they are long enough to go around the fireplace and they anchor into wall studs. They have a gate on them so you can get to the fireplace but the kids can't reach it. We use the same thing to keep our son and dog out of the kitchen since it's open to the living room instead of having a door way.
How did you childproof the hearth around your fireplace?
Jun 06, 2008 by ♥Mom Of Irish Twins♥
How did you childproof your fireplace hearth? I saw the fireplace guards Babies R Us sells and I think they're garbage. They are very thin and not worth the $50.00 they want for it. How did you do yours? We are thinking of using some foam from Home depot and rigging up our own fireplace guard. Just wondering if anyone else has done this. Our 7 month old daughter has started rolling across the floor and just missed hitting her head on the edge of the hearth. I need to do this now! Thanks in advance for your ideas!!
Alyssa Marie: You would think twice if you saw the scar on my friend's son from falling and smacking his head against the fireplace hearth. It took 10 stitches to close the gash. All because she failed to take precautions and childproof her fireplace. I hope for your child's sake he never trips and falls and hits his head on your fireplace, you might live to regret being so flippant about something as important as childproofing your home.
Foam/padding and duct tape, its ugly but safe!
