Light my fire
May 19, 2012 | If you have a period home but no
fireplaces, or you want contemporary
fireplaces for a modern home, eBay is a great place to look for bargains. Not only do features such as fireplaces, cornicing and sash windows make your home more valuable and nicer to live in, they also make it more sellable. A working fireplace can also make the room warmer and cosier – who can resist curling up in front of a roaring fire on a cold day. It’s a good idea to watch some auctions first to see what kind of price fireplaces like those you’re interested are going for. Fireplaces give a room a focal point, as well as adding character. Period homes have enduring appeal and one of the main reasons is their original features. Period homes with the original features removed or covered up are a sorry sight, but you can restore them to their former glory with a little time, money and effort. If you’re tempted by buy-it-now items, be careful not to pay over the odds, as they can be expensive.

Where can I get paint for my fireplace that can withstand the heat? Is there such a thing?

The brick around my fireplace has already been painted an ugly pink colour and I'm dying to paint over it. I want to make sure I do it right with a paint that's designed to withstand the heat.
My shopping options are Rona, Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, and Walmart.
Any tips on fireplace painting?
Rustoleum brand makes a high heat paint.
But ask the guy at the hardware store for HIGH HEAT RESISTANT paint.
How do I check if paint on fireplace is fire proof?
Apr 02, 2009 by Charlie
I was going to strip my hideous painted fireplace, but if the paint is "safe" I would just tile over it. Is there a test I can perform on the paint to know if it is fire proof?
Being fireproof is not the issue.
1. Will the tiles stick to the painted surface ?????
2. And if so....what will happen to the paint if it is subjected to heat ???
Will it break down and start kicking the tiles off ????
Will it give off noxious fumes ????
Consider all of that........if I were you, I'd remove the paint.
