Warren County columnist Ted Slate: Remembrances of times past

May 12, 2011 | I’m not exactly sure why anyone would travel to London and fight the crowds to get a glimpse of the royal couple, only to return home with toilet paper and condoms as a reminder of the sacred rite. I guess my lack of understanding stems from the fact that I’m not a collector and don’t have much in the way of memorabilia adorning my shelves. My memories of coveted events are stored safely in my heart and head, not as items laid out for display in a trophy room.

I’ve never understood, for example, the psychic reward gained by asking a famous person, who you don’t know, to place their signature in a book or on a baseball, then taking the item home to display it for family and friends.
