Chimney sparks start Wilton cabin fire
May 19, 2012 | WILTON -- Embers from a chimney caused a grass fire Wednesday that destroyed a wood cabin built by a man known for hosting free country music concerts for the community. Dunham said sparks had shot out of the chimney and caught nearby leaves and grass on fire before spreading to the one-story home on U. S. Route 2 and gutting it. Bisbee had built the cabin over a 20-year period and was constantly adding to it,... Larry Bisbee started a fire in his cabin's wood-burning stove and went to a store about 6 p. m. , returning 20 minutes later to find his home engulfed in flames. Cautillo said Bisbee often invited the community over on Sundays for country music concerts. He ran to a neighbor's home and had them call 911, according to Fire Chief Sonny Dunham. About 55 firefighters responded to the emergency call and extinguished the fire within about an hour. He didn't return a message left on his cell phone Thursday.

Wood stove chimney duct, where can i get it?
May 19, 8501 by hondalos11
Well, i know i can research the web but i was wondering if anyone here could recommend a place. Also, the chimney would go out through a window and go up. I know its not cheap, specially the stainless steel chimney.
do you guys recommend a wood stove? I heard pellet stoves require much more maintenance because of the mechanism is has.
Any info on wood stove experiences i would greatly appreciate it!
Do i have to use stainless steel? could i use something else?
You are correct that the stainless steel piping is expensive. This is due to being double or triple walled pipe. My first suggestion to you would be to check with your Homeowners Insurance. I found that a free standing wood stove would raise my rates by at least 10%. A built-in fireplace would not raise it at all. Lowes and Home Depot sell this piping.
How often should I clean my wood stove chimney pipe?

I burn a combination of oak, alligator juniper, and hickory in my wood stove. How often should I sweep out my chimney pipe to avoid a buildup of soot and possibly a fire? Also, do those chimney cleaner things that you toss into the fire really work?
For those who aren't familiar with alligator juniper, it is a hard wood (not quite as dense as oak) that is good for wood stoves - so I'm told. Maybe the guy selling it to me just wanted me to think that...
