May 19, 2012 | Tradition in the form of dentil crown molding, hardwood flooring, paneled wainscoting and a chair rail is right at home in the very big and bright (via a large bay window) formal dining room. Large (with plenty of room for a grand piano, plus) and gracious, the living room has dentil crown molding, hardwood flooring with an inlay border and a soaring cathedral ceiling. A beautiful stone-front fireplace is an attractive focal point. First things first. French doors off the foyer open into a cozy den/study/library with a coffered ceiling. Holiday celebrations in this room, which seats at least 10, will be memorable. An elegant two-story foyer with a marble floor with onyx inserts is a sampling of the treats found in the rest of the house. By the way, the “natural” millwork in this room adds to the “c’mon-in-and-relax” ambiance. Luxury (inside and out) is the mantra of this beautiful custom designed builder-owned contemporary Colonial/Cape, sited on a lushly landscaped two-plus acre...

See my other post for the fireplace instructions. A bed is easily made with a cardboard box (the kind jewelry comes in), covered with fabric for a bedspread and use little drawer sachets for pillows. We made a rocking chair by taking apart clothes pins and using the wood glued together as slats for the seat, back, arms and legs. Toothpicks can create a box fan, use the flat ones. Cut a small jewelry box bottom off and glue the toothpicks to the front and back as the grid for the fan. Create the blades inside by cutting the bottom into fins and glue it on the inside to one of the toothpick grids (ours did not have to be operational). The clock we used a small woman's watch face (like the type women wore in the 50's) and used balsa wood glued together to form a box (ours was a freestanding grandfather clock design, but you can make the same thing and hang it from the wall or place it on a table). We stained the wood and cut a hole in the front for the watch face to poke through and duct taped it inside the box.
