I have an outside wall that I want to add a fireplace. There is a cement pad outside to set the chimney on?

I need intructions for the flue what kind of materials will I need. We have a vent free fireplace but the propane is too expensive.
You might want to look at this option. It is a wood burning fireplace that you can install with out a chimney just a stove pipe arrangement similar to a stove. You can configure the hot gas exhaust in many ways.

What defines a noncombustible surface for a hearth pad?

I have to install a hearth pad for the EPA wood fireplace I'm installing. Can I simply lay tile or marble as the hearth or are there other requirements to make it noncombustible?
Check with the fireplace insert manufacturer, or consult a contractor or county building dept.
