Will gas log heating in basement fireplace heat an open basement area of 1200 sq. ft? I have a wood burning fireplace in my basement. The basement has become my office and rec room. The basement is finished but it still gets very cold. I have a space heater but it does not really warm the area. The wood burning fireplace dose not give out much heat. Do you have any suggestions. The pellet stove will not heat the whole house either, so I bring the house temp. up to 70 with my main heat, I have gas, then I lite the pellet stove and it keeps the house at 70. If I use just the pellet stove, I can't get the heat much above 60. I turn my thermostate down to 55 and as long as I have the pellet stove going, the house will stay at 70, so I just use the main heat for a short time. Wood burning fireplaces look nice but they really don't do a thing for your heat. Do you have any kind of heat in the basement now other than the space heater?
