"If you have an existing masonry fireplace that burns wood, you will likely be impacted by California's No Burn restrictions" says Dee Fisher, of Oakland-based Kidd Fireplace and Spa. Or, given the inefficiency of wood burning masonry fireplaces, chances are good that a home's fireplace is rarely used.

"There are so many home hearth options available to the consumer nowadays," say Fisher. "And converting to a new hearth, whether it be a fireplace insert, which fits into a masonry or manufactured fireplace, or a entirely new and free-standing fireplace product is simple and surprisingly affordable." "Gas logs can be put into an existing masonry fireplace, a fireplace insert can convert that wood burning masonry fireplace into a gas burner, or, consumers can choose from a wide variety of free standing stove models, or zero clearance fireplaces which require no, or relatively little, clearance from combustible materials," according to Fisher.

I have an outdoor gas fireplace. There is blockage in the burner that I tried to rmove with a coat hanger and compressed air.
burn it out with a blow torch (caution: only for the truly talented)
then try the compressed air.

I need to replace a log lighter in a fireplace with the valve/burner for propane. What do I need?

Fireplace currently is wood burning or gas (propane fueled) with key valve in place. It has a log lighter in the actual fireplace. I need to replace or convert the log lighter to accept the propane burner. Thank you.
essentially, your first need would be a gas fitter...this is something experienced trades people should be doing as it involves orifice changes and a different regulator and there is no room for experimentation.
