I've been trying to find a heat resistant fireplace gate to block of the woodfire from our 8 month old but the only ones out their seem to be plastic and can heat up very quickly and don't seem very strong. Does anyone know of anyplace that sells heat resistant ones?
Good gate to block fireplace?

We just moved into a house that has a fireplace and right by the fireplace is a cement ledge. I have a 5 month old baby who I want to keep away from this area. Do you think one of those play yards would work? Could you attach a play yard to the wall? Any other suggestions? Thanks
Hi! I agree with the first answerers ideas. However, some of those gates can get expensive. Have you thought about using a large piece of furniture or toybox to block the way? It may sound weird but perhaps it can work.
If that doesn't solve it then have you tried covering the cement securely with maybe a thick fabric of some kind -say similar to a thick rug or carpet? Something that won't hurt her if she tries to pull up along the edge of it. A friend of mine bought a neutral colored area rug on discount and nailed it over her fireplace ledge so that her baby could still walk alongside it. It actually was a more attractive alternative to putting up a huge play yard gate wall to wall.
We put a super long coffee table (it was actually a table designed for behind a sofa but the legs were cut down to coffee table height). We just blocked it all together and it discouraged the baby from playing near it. When she started trying to crawl on it, then we moved two recliners in front of the ledge and never had a problem with it.
