We are thinking about getting one, are they worth the money?
If that's the electric one my son enjoys his, but he also has a real fireplace with an insert, so I'm happy for him, in case all power were ever cut off.......that's the sad part of the new burning laws....they maybe great in the summer, but when it's freezing and the heat goes it sure is nice to have the real deal for keeping all our pipes happy:) Have some happy holidays. We have a real fireplace also for heat and cooking.......it's nice to do. I used to have a wood stove and have installed a couple of pellet stoves( just another thought)

What do you mean by fireplace? During the last ice age, people made shelters out of mammoth bones and had fireplaces with smoke holes in them. They where not what we think of as fireplaces today, but they worked. Virtually every settlement had structures that had a cooking hearth in them. They could be called fireplaces.
