what are some easy ways to modernize my white and beige large floor to ceiling fireplace?
A fresh coat of paint always brightens something up, but Im sue you already knew that. Id say perhaps install a nice black or steel shelf right above it, place modern objects on it such as candles or pictures in frames or modern art sculpture pictures. On each side of your fireplace at the bottom, get two matching objects. Such as:

making a brick fireplace modern - plz read!?

My bestfriend just bought a house in North Carolina. She has a brick fireplace that is slightly lifted off the ground. She's not sure if she should paint the bricks white, get rid of them, or what... just looking for the best, most creative ideas to pass along to her.
If you have pictures of what to do or that you've done that would help as well!
for the base of the fireplace, i would say buy some stone tile <granite, marble, something that will go with the decore> and add those to the base. It should take a little cutting, and some adhesives, but overall very easy and would add a very sophistocated look. Paint the inside of the fireplace with black or white fire paint, depending on the decore. And add a wood box around the fireplace, or more tile, depending on the look desired. If you add a box, then it would act at the new hearth, if the existing one is nice, then just add the tiles to make it look like a marble or granite fireplace. If shes really creative, you could do mosaic as well on the front of the fireplace itself.
