Sliding glass doors provide natural light to spacious end unit
May 19, 2012 | Framed by dramatic expansive windows, the two-story front door faces the rear living room, its floor-to-ceiling fireplace and a wall of sliding glass doors that open to the balcony. Other sliding glass doors appear throughout the house, leading to private balconies, the rear patio and the front courtyard. Across the hall from the front study, the renovated kitchen features another sliding glass door to the patio. It leads to the freshly carpeted upper landing, which overlooks the sliding glass doors in the family room and their wooded view. In keeping with the concept of indoor-outdoor living, visitors are greeted by two sliding glass doors in the study next to the entrance. A brick courtyard with garden plots stands between the two-car garage and the decorated front door. New granite counters include a breakfast bar dividing the kitchen from the rear dining area, with its wall of windows. The powder room is located next to the study, near the open, wooden staircase.

How to install a glass fireplace door?
Feb 01, 2008 by clearview
Currently we have a manufacture fireplace. On the front of the fireplace it has a metal net screen that you pull from both sides to close it. This screen is attached by little round links to a metal bar that runs across the top outside opening of the fireplace. We want to install a glass fireplace door - 1st - how does one remove that bar? 2nd - how do you get the correct measurements for the new glass fireplace door? 3rd - how do you install the fireplace door? Your help is much appreciated.
I had a similar set up but instead of a door, there was a solid piece of glass between the screen (as youd described) and the glass. Ours was a Heatilator and on their units, you could read the model number behind the access panel on the bottom of the unit. Based on that model number, they had a
2 panel door that I ordered. It came with detailed instructions on installing it.
Depending on your unit, you might have the same vendor, if not maybe you can get the model number and then search for the door.
Can I use an out door fireplace (a chiminea) in my new living room?
May 14, 2008 by Urban Aristotle
I ran out of money during our new renovation of our family room. I wanted a fireplace but now I can't afford one. We have a beautiful little one that we use on the patio. Could I bring that one in and use it if we keep the windows open while it's lit?
As long as it's not too cold outside and you only burn candles in it. It should be quite pretty. You could save for a real one next Christmas so Santa has some way to get in the house.
