Custom Home Steps Up with Stylish Treads

May 19, 2012 | He surprised his wife, Annie, with their dream home in Plymouth, Vt. Inspired by the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, Clarke worked with architect Daniel J. Pratt, president of RCWA Architects & Planners in Pittsfield, Vt. , to create the home. Instead, Clarke sent Pratt a clipping of a glass stair and wondered if such a concept would work in this home. “I wanted to bring back into the project the feel of cascading water even if it was by image only–in this case a blue glass staircase. One feature that stands out is a glass staircase, reminiscent of Wright’s Falling Waters. “It was an easy ‘yes’ and I insisted on the treads being of blue glass,” says Pratt. Best way to install Fireplace glass doors on uneven brick?

We have a beautiful fireplace with uneven brick. However, the draft from the chimney is brutal and we're looking to install glass doors to cover the front of the opening. The galss doors we've bought stay in place fine, but have a gap between the frame and the stones. We will try to place the fire retardent insulation between them to fill the gap, but what can we use to cover that up so it isn't unsightly? Is there any other way of doing this?? Thanks in advance for your help.

How to install a glass fireplace door?

Currently we have a manufacture fireplace. On the front of the fireplace it has a metal net screen that you pull from both sides to close it. This screen is attached by little round links to a metal bar that runs across the top outside opening of the fireplace. We want to install a glass fireplace door - 1st - how does one remove that bar? 2nd - how do you get the correct measurements for the new glass fireplace door? 3rd - how do you install the fireplace door? Your help is much appreciated.
I had a similar set up but instead of a door, there was a solid piece of glass between the screen (as youd described) and the glass. Ours was a Heatilator and on their units, you could read the model number behind the access panel on the bottom of the unit. Based on that model number, they had a
2 panel door that I ordered. It came with detailed instructions on installing it.

Depending on your unit, you might have the same vendor, if not maybe you can get the model number and then search for the door.
