For peep's sake: Studio offers glass peep-making workshops
May 19, 2012 | Paulter takes the glass glob from the furnace to the marver table, where she rolls it into crushed-up colored glass called frit. Paulter said her sister, who also is a glass blower, has very short bangs. 1 Paulter uses a steel rod called a punty to retrieve molten glass from the furnace, kept at a toasty 2,000 degrees. As the glass starts to harden, she puts it back in the "glory hole" for a few seconds to make it more pliable. Then she puts it in a second oven, the "glory hole," to melt the color into the clear glass. Word of caution: The furnace is so hot that standing too close to the open door can singe your hair. The glass starts out as powdered batch and becomes the consistency of honey when heated. 2 Like their counterpart marshmallow chicks, these peeps come in every spring color. Paulter forms the peep by spinning it into shape using a mitt of wet, folded-up newspapers and large tweezer-like jacks to define the head and body. 3 Here's where the glob becomes art.

Should a Heil gas furnace blower kick on for 5 seconds every time after it completes a heating cycle?
Nov 06, 2007 by Jay in Orlando
I have never had gas heat before. My Heil furnace goes through this cycle -- it ignites the furnace, warms about 20 seconds or so, kicks on the blower, and heats the house quickly and beautifully. Then, it clicks off. Five seconds later, the blower kicks back on for five seconds and then goes off. It does this every time. Is that how it works? If so, why?
No it shouldn't do that. The blower off time delay should be adjusted on the furnace control board. The control board has a built in timer that shuts the fan off. If it shuts off too fast the heat left over in the furnace can cause it to come back on. On older furnaces there is a temperature switch that does it. If your furnace is older, then the temperaure switch can be adjusted. For more info, check out the furnace page at www.hvac-for-beginners.com
Furnace blower seems to run a lot after installing programable thermostats?
Jan 21, 2008 by sully
I replaced the old dial mercury thermostats in my house with programble ones, i have the new thermostats set at 65' but my furnace blower seems to run about every 20-30mins for about 5-10mins, and my house temp is around 70-75 is this normal or should i have a professional check my install of the new thermostats?
That is probably normal. With a digital thermostat, the setpoint is more accurate therefore you have more cycles for shorter periods of time. The old mechanical type allowed huge temperature swings so the unit would come on less often but run longer. For more info, check out the thermostat page at my source.
