How much does cleaning a furnace fan cost?
May 19, 9964 by fuzzy bunny
My furnace keeps tripping the circuit breaker because apparently the fan is loaded down with dust and is too heavy for the motor to spin it.
I need to know how much this would cost if I called a furnace person to clean it?
The furnace is probably from the 70s or 80s and is a "spark ignition" furnace.
Thank you!
Unless it was caked on a couple of inches thick with some heavy mud, a dirty fan is not going to keep the motor from starting. On the other hand, when a motor is 'loading down,' it usually the motor is overloaded electrically or mechanically.
It's probably time to have your furnace serviced...if you don't have it done every year.
Replacing a motor can run up to $200 on the average.
Good luck...
During winter, is it better to have your furnace fan blowing all of the time,as opposed to on auto?

I live in Chicago, where it we are having sub-zero temps right now.
Some DJ on the radio said that it is more efficient and better for your furnace to keep the fan blowing all of the time when it is very cold.
Is this true? What is the logic behind it if it is?
Thank you!
Our furnace man told us the same thing.... our fan is on "ON" year round...
It helps circulate the air evenly and doesn't make the fan switch off and on all the time, which prolongs the life of the fan.
