Replace or repair? That's the home improvement question
May 19, 2012 | While many modern skylights are energy-efficient, qualify to use the Energy Star mark and leak-free, if you have an older, plastic model it's probably a good idea to replace it. Not only are these older plastic bubble-type skylights often faded... "There are millions of those unattractive, cracked and yellowed plastic skylights still out there," says Ross Vandermark, national product manager of VELUX America, which markets the warranted "No-Leak Skylight. They don't leak, they look better, they reduce UV rays and provide substantial energy savings. " "Replacing them with new energy-efficient, double-pane (insulating)
glass models is quick and easy. To help you get an idea of how these rules apply, here's what some experts have to say about
home elements that frequently raise the repair/replace question:. * How does the cost of repair measure up to the value it will provide.

Does any body know a good website to find furnace parts for a Amana?

My furnace stopped working after making some loud noises, sounded like metal grinding on metal. My husband took a look and said the blower is not working. I was hoping I could get a blower on ebay for a good deal but I can't find the part number so I can search.
You should be able to find a motor at any hvac shop. Find the diameter of the motor, probably 5 1/4 and the shaft length. Voltage and amp should be listed on motor. Did ya check to make sure it wasnt just the blower wheel that was bad causing the noise?
Dont need an Amana motor, Fasco makes replacement motors for everything.
Westwood C50D gas wall furnace need parts diagram/manual?

Westwood C50D gas wall furnace bought in 1977 I need a parts diagram/Manual for this unit. I think the thermocouple needs to be replaced. Trying to find a website that deals with old or out of date furnaces.
Is it still efficient? (Age causes a combustion chamber to lose efficiency... you may be wasting fuel with an old unit) It may be time to replace it anyway.
Read ALL of the following if you want to test your theory.
TEMPORARILY Try to bypass or override the thermocouple - either as a (pun not intended) hotwire or by means of an added switch. Do this ONLY to TEST the rest of the unit.
Running this way can cause overheating and FIRE HAZARD! Thermocouples are often used to determine the SHUT OFF temperature! DO NOT RUN ANY HEATER WITHOUT THE PROPER SAFETY INSTRUMENTS IN PLACE.
Please do not try to operate the unit as a human thermocouple - they (humans) don't work well at this for long... and the old one lasted 30 years longer than a human replacement would!
If the unit otherwise operates as you expect- examine the thermocouple itself-- they're generally made by outside suppliers... and it may be possible to find a model number on that unit.
