Coal Furnace?

I have a coal furnace at home but it is making loud sounds along with black smoke when i clean my house... what can i do to fix it? As my hypothesis i think there is something wrong with the motar thing .... I really don't know ..... LOL SOS help..
It sounds like your heat exchanger has a crack in it. The old timers called this the kidney because of its shape. At this time it probable would be cheaper to buy a new furnace rather than try to fix the old one. If you wanted to stay with coal the new ones are allot more efficient self feeding etc.
You can try looking in the furnace, when its cold, check the exchanger that is shaped like a kidney look for cracks. If you find them you can try to patch them with high temp patch.
Just be careful trying this instead of replacement.
Good luck
