Wilmington. prayer furnace opens Fri. night

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Friday night, The Wilmington Prayer Furnace opened its doors with worship and an open house.

Last year, Timothy Carr began renovating a building at 101 Kerr Avenue . It was an old McDonald's office, but has since been transformed into what Carr hopes will be Wilmington's first 24 hour house of prayer.

"Well it's awesome," said Carr. "I have ongoing traffic being in the easement of the drive thru for McDonald's. In fact, the golden arches say 24 hours on them. It's just one of those amazing little signs along the way that God wanted us here."

Carr and his wife, Laurie believe in a biblical call for constant prayer and worship and want to answer that call in Wilmington.

Carr said the word "furnace" is used because heroes are forged, not made.

"It actually states in scripture that our God is a consuming fire," explained Carr.  "And what I believe the prayer furnace is, is an atmosphere where I can lay anything before the Lord so that He can consume whatever is standing between He and I."
