What size electric furnace do I need for a 1344 Sq Ft garage? We have a 32' X 42' garage with 12' ceilings (no interior walls). We want to get an electric furnace to keep the garage at a constant temperature. What size furnace would be sufficient? We do have a wood burner to use, but we won't be in the garage constantly to keep a fire going. We don't want the cement floor to crack due to freezing. We live in Ohio.
a 15 kw heater would do the job
(10 watts/ sq ft.......1344 sq ft.....13440watts.....13.44KW....15 KW is the closest) if y'all have a fan forced furnace you can have a 15 kw duct heater added and use a 2 stage stat with the duct heater as stage 2. if not, you might consider electric base boards ....6 8' 2500w heaters would do it. if you have a friend in the business, ask for an old air handler for a heat pump.....they will have the heat strips and a blower. hope this helps, Possum, HVAC guy |

How can I run added duct work from my house furnace to heat my attached garage? I ran ductwork from my gas furnace through the main plenum, across my basement, through a cement block wall into my attached garge. I also installed a booster fan to help pull the heat into the garage, but have very little air flow into the garage. The other ducts that branch from this main duct (plenum) have excellant air flow. Where did I go wrong?
The new duct measures: 8" X 31/2". I had to choose this size duct as I wanted to fit flush or above the floor joices. Please advise? Get a separate heater for your garage. The vent size that you ran is big enough to carry 70 cfm of air which is enough for a small bathroom. In some areas you may be violating codes. Most areas do not allow ducts to vent into a garage from your house duct. The reason being is you have the ability to get fumes from you garage directly into your house. If you have exhaust fumes, gas fumes and etc. they may easily get into you duct system. I wish you luck! They make regular small heaters for your garage.
