Country elegance, quality extras in Hopkinton Colonial
May 22, 2012 | Hopkinton is famous as the starting line for the Boston Marathon, but it also has excellent recreational assets with beach and boating in Hopkinton State Park and hiking trails at Whitehall Reservoir. “It’s a great commuter location, close to the train in Southborough and Ashland, and to Route 495, and South Mill Street has good access to both sides of Hopkinton. That pride in
craftsmanship shows in every detail from the street number engraved in the granite
lamppost to the built-in beadboard bench in the mudroom, features that show the thought and pride that went into the construction. The builder went the extra mile to add quality upgrades, inside and out, to the house at 42 South Mill St. in Hopkinton. “Hopkinton has great schools and was voted one of the best places to live,” said Donna Arthur of ERA Key Realty in Milford.

Radient heat above gas fireplace too much for electronics?
Jan 26, 2008 by Stu G
I have a corner gas fireplace with a direct-vent to outside. I'm sure that above the fireplace, behind-the-wall, there is a nominal amount of radiant heat, but I am contemplating cutting into the wall to insert a built-in shelf for cable-box, receiver, and DVD, and then above that mount my flat-screen TV.
Has anyone done something similar? If so, did you take any precautions to insulate the shelf? How much clearance should there be between the bottom shelf and the fireplace?
Am i inviting disaster?
My brother does custom cabinetry and this is a very common place to put TV's and all of the components now. As far as I know there has not been any problems so far with any of his customers, which are all returning custmoers and they would have said something. A gas fireplace does not put off enough heat above the fireplace if vented properly, i.e. the flue being open and a window being slightly open in the room for proper air flow. Personally I do not think that you will have any problems with doing this.
