I purchased this unit a year ago and after falling in love with the look of the stove and somewhat realistic flame, I opted to purchase 2 more for Christmas gifts. During that first initial season of use,which was winter BTW, they worked and heated great! Even on the coldest of days it kept the room warm and toasty,to the point where the unit would need to be shut off.Thats not a complaint,just describing how happy I was with the unit...until. Did not use the heater or flame for a few months and when it started getting chilly I turned it on and everything was working perfectly. A few days later while using it, it had turned itself off and would turn back on. This would happen repeated times until the heater would not work at all. I contacted Dimplex (who are great to deal with!) and told them what had happened and they sent me a replacment part at no charge! First of all the fireplace now works great. It looks great and heats up the bedroom nicely. For the price it is perfect.The bad news is you might need a substantial home workshop to put the pieces back together. I have a big workshop and that is lucky. Needless to say it arrived in pieces. It had been dropped. It is particle board so of course it was broken. I was able to fix it because it uses Ikea style bolts and hardware. It is made to take apart! What I do not understand is why they do not ship it knocked down. It would be smaller and less susceptible to damage. If you can assemble simple Ikea stuff you could do this. I took the whole thing apart, re-glued the broken particle board and then put it all back together. I am glad I did because I am sure if I returned it the unit would be in a landfill somewhere. It is unnecessary. Package it flat and let us ingenuous North Americans put it together ourselves!

This is a great product, very realistic flame. Very nice looking unit. No assembly, just take out of box and plug it in.

Help! Quick! No Privacy in two-sided gas fireplace! You can see through from the Sitting Room to the Bedroom!?
Jun 01, 2007 by Jennifer AQuick! The Stone Masons are coming and I want to resolve this before they get started, but noone can give me a good solution. Besides a freestanding screen, what can I do for privacy? I have moved into a house with a two-sided gas fireplace that you can see straight through from the sitting room to bedroom! (stone on sitting room side and marble/wood mantle on the bedroom side) I don't know what the builders were thinking...possibly that they would never have nosey children running around the house and that whoever might buy the house after they were finished with it wouldn't have children either.
I'm not 100% sure this would work but how about high temperature paint(used for painting car parts and other things)? If you can get it to adhere to the glass it should be able to handle the heat. I would recommend going with a black paint otherwise it going to look bad from the soot of fires.
