Should I go with a vent free gas or an electric fireplace?

Please tell your experiences with vent free gas fireplaces. What are you feelings about their safety? Are they safe? Do they put out sooty film on walls an curtains? Have you gotten sick since you've been around them? I can choose between gas and electric right now (new construction) and I am getting mixed messages about gas fireplaces. Please help!
I would go with the electric.
(they're more convienient, more efficiant, and safer)

There are some made that are portable and some are built-in. You just need to carefully examine the style that you buy and ask the dealer if it is child-safe. One major danger with ventless gas stoves is the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.
