Loans Aid Heating Energy Conversions for Chambersburg Homes
May 22, 2012 | “The loans have paid for new, high-efficiency natural gas furnaces and water heaters to allow homeowners to convert from non-gas units,” Leary said. Sponsored by the borough’s gas supplier, Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia, some $400,000 was originally made available as loans to residents, said John Leary, gas department superintendent. “Even though the heating season is near its end, people are still hurting from paying around $4 per gallon for heating oil,” he said. Although the weather is getting warmer, Leary said there has still been “substantial” interest in the program. So far, $235,330 has been borrowed, with another $52,520 in preapproved loans, he said. This month, the authority increased funding for the Energy Efficiency Financing program to $5 million. “The expectation is the cost of heating oil will only increase.

Can a gas water heater be installed near an electrical fuse box?

I live in California, and our water heater is outside against the rear of the house. We need to move it. We have only 5 feet to the fence on the north side of the house, so I assume there is not enough clearance. The other option is near (maybe a foot or two) the electrical box on the south side. Just wondering if there are any code restrictions against this.
There is absolutely no where inside to move it to, and the garage is detached. Tankless is not an option at this point.

You can't put anything within 3 feet of an electrical panel.
Why does our gas heater smell like it's leaking gas when maintenance says it's not?

Our apartment came with an old huge open flame gas heater. When we run it there's a STRONG gas smell, so bad you can barely breath. Maintenance has checked it for leaks and found none. Our other, smaller and newer, gas heater does not do this.
The old heater may not be burning as efficiently as the newer heater hence the smell of mercaptan*.
Sometimes there's a burner air adjustment.
Some gas suppliers will inspect/adjust as required.
