Which gas pool heater is the most efficient and reliable, available in Ontario?

We are putting in a pool in Ontario and will need a heater. Can someone advise the most reliable and efficient brand of gas heater to buy? Who has the best warranty? Thanks.
Hayward or Jandy are two of the most popular ones available. Either one is a good value...
I'm a salesman in the propane business, and I have a heat pump pool heater on my 16 x 32 in-ground! I would never go back to a fuel burning pool heater! They just use way too much fuel!
Heat pump pool heaters are more expensive to buy, but your operating costs are next to nothing. Basically all they have is a fan and a compressor to run, so it's using about as much electricity as a deep freezer when it's operating. A propane or natural gas heater is going to be somewhere between 250,000 and 400,000 btu's depending on the size of your pool. Let's look at that for a minute. The average furnace is about 80,000 btu's so you will be using anywhere from 3 to 5 times more fuel than your furnace does when it's operating!!! Run a 400,000 btu pool heater for 5 hours and you've burnt about $50 worth of propane at today's price.
I sell pool heaters and propane, but I always make sure my customers understand exactly how much fuel that these things burn. In my personal opinion it is a very expensive way to go. If you are planning on staying in this house for a while I would spend the extra money on the heat pump. You will be happier in the long run! Hope this helps!
Can I disconnect my gas pool heater myself or or is this a job for the gas company?
May 22, 4201 by I love Spring!
We have an above ground pool that has an ancient gas heater. I want to disconnect the gas pipe that goes from the house to the heater because it leaks a little gas and we never plan on using it since it is so old and loud. Can we do this ourselves or is this a job for the gas company? If we can do it ourselves how would we do it with out blowing up? Thanks for the advice!
There should be two or three shut off valves for the heater. First one is on the or next to the gas meter, next one is next to the heater and the third one is inside the heater.
If you are not sure ask your gas company, they will do it for free!
Something else to be concerned with, all the pool water circulates through the heater, whether it is on or not. Heaters wear from the inside out and will start leaking. If is happens to your heater even if you have turned the gas off then you need to get a pool plumber out to put a bypass on the heater plumbing so you can still circulate and filter your water.
You're welcome!!
