Why is the supply line to my hot water heater hot? I just bought this house and I am doing alot of small repairs when i noticed that the supply line going to the hot water heater is hot. When i turn on the tap it immediately goes cold. The hot water heater is from 1996 and is gas. If anyone has any idea i would really appreciate it. I am going to replace it this weekend anyway because of the age.
Thanks The vent pipe is very hot to touch. and I do have alot of single handed faucets. Is that normal for the vent pipe to be that hot? Yes the vent pipe will be hot to the touch, and may cause burns if touched while the burner is in operation. NOTE: don't touch it !!!

Which hot water heater is best for this application? Have a boiler hot water heater. It is ok in the winter but it really stinks in the summer. Last spring I built a solar heater to preheat the water (it cost me about 300 bucks) It has almost paid for itself in addition I have more hot water. I would like to just shut the boiler down in the summer and run it in the winter. What kind of hot water heating system can someone recommend for the summer? I thought about tank less, electric or LP or a small electric tank.
It will depend on how much hot water you will be using if you have more than 3 people in your house I would go to a regular heater. or if you have a high demand for such as a jet tub if it is just you and your other I would get a tank less. I have one in my cabin and it is nice and care free system.
