I bought this brand of heater for my above ground pool last year. I immediately started having problems. The unit started leaking before I had the gas installed! Then, the Hayward company made accusations that the alkalinity in my pool water may have caused the problem. There was no problems with my chemically balanced pool water! I could see it was a factory defect in the solder of the copper tubing. Anyway, I replaced the heat exchanger, and it seemed OK. Now, just a few months later... the heater will not work! The unit will not ignite and it is wasting gas! I attempted to resolve the situation by contacting the pool store, in which they informed me to contact a Hayward representative. After several attempts, I was unable to contact someone/anyone at Hayward. I tried to get some information from the Hayward web site... completely useless. Then trying to find someone to service this particular unit... they complained about this model H100ID1. They said they have had numerous...

I have replaced the heater core twice, going on my third time. The first was due to "bad pool chemistry". The second and third were due to a bad design in the inlet/outlet copper tube. It made a rattling noise because a peice of metal came loose in it. DO NOT BUY this item.

read the reviews on this product, they are all very true and accurate. I also bought one of these brand new thinking that i wouldn't have problems with a new unit. First month major leak in heat exchanger drained 1/2 my pool. Next won't ignite, then another leak. Oh now it is out of 1 year warranty. Hayward says bad pool chemistry. Now after fixing all the problems myself, the thing won't light again. Piece of junk. Never buy this unit if you are wise.

my pool heater work go on.i checked all wiring (none broken) i have reset the 60amp circut breaker still did not go on . I have power into the box where the breaker is,power is going into the breaker,what else?/ help

USA Check and make sure all switches and controls are properly set - thermostat is set at the right temp, timer is on, etc... Start checking for power at the circuit breaker panel, and work your way to the heater, and at the heater check every switch. Is the heater 220 volt? Make sure you have 220 going to the unit if it is needed. Check for power at the main switch at the heater, and at the thermostat. Somewhere, some device is either not getting power, or is getting it but not sending it on to the next place it is needed.

Pool Heater: natural gas versus electric heat pump?

I am trying to decide which heater I should choose for my pool. I live in eastern Canada, which means that my pool season lasts about 6 months. We have access to natural gas. From what I've read thus far, natural gas heaters are about 40% cheaper to purchase than a heat pump, but the operational costs are about more. On the other hand, the natural gas heater warms the pool up much quicker and is supposedly more durable.

Which system would people recommend? If the natural gas heater works quicker, is it practical to only operate the system a few hours prior to using (thus saving on operational costs)? From what I understand, most pool owners leave their electric systems on all of the time?

I would go with gas if you use your pool once in awhile and electric if you use it every day.
