Heating plants shut down

May 22, 2012 | The Naval Base Ventura County energy team of Ken Mears or Tom Santoianni will review requests for portable space heaters on a case-by-case basis. Portable space heaters using gas or liquid fuel are prohibited. Portable electric space heaters must be Underwriter Laboratory (UL) or Factory Mutual (FM) approved and must have a label or approval affixed with a built-in thermostat and a tip-over device. As always, electric portable heaters are prohibited, except as allowed through Navy regulations. Before using a portable space heater, a permit must be obtained from the Fire Prevention Office. The restriction on portable heaters is in recognition of the fire hazard and intensive energy use they represent. Questions about the policy can be directed to Santoianni at 982-4075 or Mears at 982-1807. In keeping with the energy policy set forth in Navy regulations, heating plants are now shutting down for the summer. The intent of these Navy regulations is to help conserve energy. Read more »

Questions & Answers

Compare propane on a little portable heater to the propane on the portable gas grill?

Sep 23, 2006 by buddypogo
These little portable propane heaters can be used with a 20 gal tank -- is this the same system we would use on our portable gas grills?
Read the user guide because some heaters run on a different sort of fuel such as heating oil. But if it says propane, and the fittings are compatible, then you can use the same tank that you use for your grill.
