GOP hopefuls recycle energy talking points

Jun 14, 2011 |

Michele Bachmann said the administration’s environmental regulations were one of the primary reasons for the nation’s sluggish economy and said one of her first pieces of business if elected president would be to try to pass "the mother of all repeal bills."

"I'd begin with the EPA," the Minnesota congresswoman said. "There's no other agency like the EPA. And it should be really renamed the 'Job Killing Organization of America.'"

Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, also lumped energy issues in as a driving factor behind the recession.

"We don't have just one problem," he said. "We have a crisis of the three E's. We've got the economy, entitlement spending and energy. We've got to simultaneously work on all of those so we can put 13 to 14 million people back to work. That's what we've got to do. It's not just the single issue. It's the multiple and the compounding effect of those three critical problems."

Was I sick from leaking oil from heater?

Jun 13, 2007 by Cendrie
I recently stayed at the beach house of a friend. The day I got there, I started feeling ill. Headaches, stomach cramps, temp. It got worse each night, and better during the day.

On the day before I left, I realised that her small portable oil heater had leaked yellowish oil. This was in the bedroom. While unused, the room was heated by another source. No odour though.

I accidently got some on my bare feet as I was cleaning up and started feeling ill soon after. I didn't connect at the time that this oil may have been toxic. As soon as I left I started feeling much better.

Does anyone know if the oil in heaters is toxic? It is cleaned up and I told my friend but I am just interested in how dumb I actually was.
i dont know, but maybe when u left the airing from outside may have cured your ailments.I dont think u being barefooted would have that much of an effect

Is it more economical to use portable oil-filled electric heaters than the large built-in baseboards?

Jan 26, 2007 by Dartagnan
Electric rates have skyrocketed in my area and I only heata few rooms in the house and only in the evening. I think a small electric portable oil-filled radiator would be cheaper to operate than heating up the large baseboard heater. I am wrong or right? Would love to save some money somehow. Thanks for your answers
They are both electric. So temperature for comfort and number of rooms handled drive cost more than which type.

However, where are your water pipes? Keep on top of them so they don't freeze. Trailers, crawl spaces and some basements will get to freezing temperatures if the main heat system isn't used. You may need to wrap your pipes with heat tapes and insulation.
