Can I use room heater for my infant during winter?

We have infant who is 9 months old. We are residing in New Delhi, India where the temperature is fluctuating between 1.5C and 10C. Can we use room heater for our infant to counter this chilling cold. If yes, are there any specific number of hours after which we need to switch off the heater to avoid any problem to the infant or can we use it continuously? In other words, are there any health hazards to infant due to the use of room heater.
We used a heater all winter for our newborn. It is an oil heater with a thermostat, so the temperature doesn't fluctuate but stays the same. It worked really well, and is the safest heater you can buy to stay on all night, short of purchasing a heat pump (very expensive). They use quite a bit of power, especially if you are heating them up and cooling them down - so once you turn it on for the night, don't switch it off (the thermostat will adjust the temperature for you, and you can set it higher or lower). It would pay to get one that has a "tip function" - they turn off if the heater falls over as an additional safety feature.
