Waste not the palm oil biomass
May 19, 2012 | Even if there are no air quality issues, any palm oil plantation easily generates more biomass that it could ever need for its
boilers, and in the case of oil palm shells, more than half has to be discarded. Some of the notable achievements include research on palm lumber, and the production of biofuel from the fermentation of oil palm fronds. This amount of palm biomass is believed to be 85% of the total amount of biomass generated in the country. For a group of Colombian researchers, the oil palm shell holds promise as a form of biofuel. That said, burning mill residues to fuel boilers is a long-adopted practice here, where empty fruit bunches are burned and their energy value is recovered in the form of heat, which is sometimes used to generate electricity. Even before the unveiling of NBS2020, much research has already been done on how to economically utilise the various parts of the oil palm tree and fruit. Burning of raw biomass, however, is not without its problems, and it has been acknowledged that easily more than half of the boilers in the plantations cannot meet the Department of Environments emission standards.

Based in Ireland considering installing a wood pellet burner.Have you any experiences, observations or suggestions .Have you had a pellet boiler installed in a domestic house. My current oil burner is in the garage.A grant is available in Ireland to fit this system.Answers from Europe please.
There are 2 reasons I would not recomend a pellet burner--1) the grinders prematurely wear out--the motors burn out because they usually are not designed to handle the work load.---2) the igniters will also wear out within about 2 years and will have to be replaced with a new 'super igniter'. when the control box wears out you can now call this a planter box. Technology will catch up some day as these problems are addressed but untill then stick with an oil or gas burner.
Does anyone have a Gerkros pellet burner installed?

If so, how long does it take to get to temperature once switched on from cold.
I think my parents use it. I think it usually takes about 45 minutes.
