'Tiny Homes, Simple Shelter'

May 22, 2012 | Parked on a small island in the Straight of Georgia, it’s a refurbished 1990 Ford Econoline with the cab cut off, made taller with plywood walls insulated with styrofoam and boasting a wood stove built from a 20 lb. propane tank. (On that note, tiny home dwellers have the same options for sewage disposal as regular homes: a septic system, composting toilets, or the trusty ol' chamber pot. Asked what it's like to live there, House says: "It keeps my life orderly. Kahn's definition of a tiny home is simple: it must measure less than 500 square feet. Who is suited to a tiny home. Add that to today's mortgage crisis, job scarcity, high rents, and a growing awareness that providing one's own shelter is a matter of personal freedom, and you have a pretty appealing option for a variety of folks. Questions & Answers

Is it safe to shower in a sauna when the stove is turned off?

Jun 29, 2008 by Devon V
Will it harm an electric sauna stove if it gets wet when it's not on?

Also is there a simple reason why the stove will shut off automatically after about 15 minutes even if the timer is set to an hour or more? We think it might be a problem with the sensor that's mounted on the wall that we assume measures the temperature as a safety shut off kinda thing. Thanks!
I wouldn't recommend it. There is likely still a live electrical circuit that is just being interrupted with a switch. Also, if water collects in the heater, it might short-circuit once turned on. Water and electricity usually don't play nicely, especially when you put yourself in the equation.

There might be a temperature shutoff as a safety, or there might be a time-limit safety. It's awfully easy to set the timer for an hour, bake 15 minutes, then walk away and leave an unattended heat source for 45 minutes... The 15-minute limit might be in place for just that reason.

Then again, it all depends on your installation. In this case, I would certainly err on the side of caution.
