A new mum in Oman: Kate Silverton takes new baby Clemency to beautiful Zighy Bay

May 22, 2012 | This time I thought we might stick to one location for convenience but I wanted to find somewhere that still had a sense of the traditional Oman. Having had a baby, I wondered how much we would still be able to do. There are those who say that four months is actually the best time to travel with a baby because they haven't yet become whirling dervishes. One of the reasons for choosing Oman at this time of year was that it would be sunny yet not stiflingly hot. Nestled between a dramatic mountain range and a pristine white sandy beach, the hotel sold itself to us not only because of its location but also because of its childcare facilities. A new hotel - Six Senses in Zighy Bay, on the northern Musandam peninsula - seemed ideal. Mike and I had been to Oman before - enjoying a trip to the capital Muscat and then an awesome stay in tents among the dunes of the Wahiba sands - and always planned to return. It also felt like a relatively adventurous place to visit, while boasting an abundance of modern healthcare facilities should we need them. Read more »

Are traditional saunas or far infrared sauna better?

Apr 15, 2009 by mary k ♥
Are traditional sauna or far infrared sauna better?Which has more benefits and which do you prefer?
People who sell the infrared ones say they're better and pull out toxins better but ive always found the traditional saunas more relaxing
Thankyou
It's a personal preference issue.
The traditional saunas use heating methods that heat the whole room including the air. Some people love this because the warm feeling is more relaxing, but some people hate this because they can't get it too hot or it makes it hard to breathe.
With infrared saunas, the infrared heat actually penetrates the body and heats you from the inside as opposed to heating the air. That means that the air doesn't get so hot and you can actually get it hotter in there, which makes you sweat more (which is why they say it pulls out toxins better).

Some people like one and hate the other, some are the exact opposite, so it's really up to personal preference. I hope I helped!

Benefits of Traditional Sauna vs Infrared Sauna?

Mar 10, 2007 by Hayes
Could you help me list the benefits of Traditional Sauna and why we should not Infrared and stick to traditional?
Infrared heat has some distinct advantages over traditional steam heat saunas, however many steam sauna advocates feel that an infrared sauna does not provide the same relaxing and invigorating experience as steam for a steam sauna or steam shower. This is an issue of personal preference.

Infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. FIR heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally.

Traditional steam saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. FIR saunas work differently. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, FIR saunas heat the body directly. The result is a lower power bill and deeper tissue penetration. In the FIR sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna. FIR saunas are safe for all ages.

Traditional saunas are more likely to spread and cultivate bacteria in the humid air, therefore an infrared sauna creates a more sanitary environment. An Infrared Sauna will heat up in a shorter time period than a steam sauna because it can heat the skin directly and does not need to heat the air.
