Wood pellet manufacturers setting up shop in southeastern Va., NC

FRANKLIN—Within 18 months, three companies announced plans to open four wood-pellet manufacturing facilities within the region, including at the former International Paper mill in Franklin.

A demand for wood pellets for generating electricity in Europe, the availability of the southern yellow pine and Western Tidewater’s proximity to the Atlantic ports seem to be the driving force.

“We’re seeing a good number of plants being built, particularly in the southeastern United States,” said Jason Berthiaume, membership coordinator for the Pellet Fuels Institute in Arlington, a trade association promoting energy independence through renewable biomass fuel.

Companies building in the area are:

* Wood Fuel Developers in Chester. In January 2010, the company announced plans to build an $18.7 million pellet plant in Greensville County that was expected to create 39 jobs.

One year later, Wood Fuel Developers announced intentions to replace a closed particleboard plant in Waverly with its new manufacturing center for wood pellets. The $8.6 million project is expected to bring 28 jobs to Sussex County.

Where can I get a fireplace insert for a existing wood fireplace?

I am trying to find out f there is a wood burning fireplace insert that I can buy to fit into my existing masonry wood fireplace.

The interior dimensions are 31" wide x 27" deep
Call your local fireplace shops. You might be able to find out online which inserts will fit your fireplace, but that doesn't mean you'll actually be able to purchase one. Supply is tight this year and many people are waiting months for their stoves or are not able to get them at all. It depends on the size, the brand, and the part of the world you are in. So checking locally for supply really has to be a part of the process of finding an insert that will work for you.

How do you work a Lopi wood fireplace insert?

We bought a house with a Lopi insert in the fireplace.... no instructions on how to use it? It is suppose to heat the room, however, only cool air is coming out? Help please.
LOPI! first of all, it's a great product - i installed one for my father 2 years ago. i love those stoves.

If you have never used a wood stove insert before, I would get it checked out by a quality chimney sweeper to make sure all is well with the unit and your chimney. and have everything cleaned.

Lopi stoves usually have 2 levers: one to regulate how much air is let into the stove (more air = faster hotter burn), and a second to regulate how much air is let up the chimney (smoke gets trapped in the stove making it heat up more, making the stove more efficient)

it should give you some incite on what you have to do to get this unit running correctly. again, they are great stoves. i wish i had one!
