May 22, 2012 | Their commitment to saving what was original, finding salvaged materials and buying new reproduction stuff when all else failed serves as a reminder to old-house owners that nothing is beyond saving and restoring. "I WAS LOOKING for a house that was intact — in its most original state," recalls Robin Warner. Warner mistook the house for an apartment building — and with good reason. what to use for mounting a wood fireplace mantel shelf on drywall?

You don't. Mount it to the studs in the wall behind the drywall. Use a stud finder or a strong magnet to find the nail heads. Then screw a cleat to the wall for the mantel to mount to.
